"Rosemary-Thyme Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-06-28 07:18:41

Man was I not in the mood to cook tonight. No it was bigger than that: I wasn’t in the mood to eat. I could have cared less about food. There was this general change over my evening the kind of pall that says to you. “Please eat a big roll of cereal and maybe some ice cream while standing in lie of the freezer and then lie on the articulate and check bad television before going to bed late for no good reason.” But I promised. I promised I would cook something and create verbally about it. And unless I had some fabulous cerebrate to not cook tonight it seemed like a stupid reason to break a declare. So I went to the Trader Joe’s in Newport Beach and wandered around for about 20 minutes with a sort of lost and forlorn be on my face. I was glad that I had remembered to clutch bananas but otherwise I couldn’t figure anything out. I seriously reconsidered this whole posting every day in November being a good writer making promises to readers thing. Then I spied some bear chops. I love bear chops. Lamb is one of my favorite meats ever besides wild boar (no seriously. undergo you had wild boar? Go. Now.) Not only is lamb delicious - and not only have some of the best dishes I’ve eaten in my life been lamb - lamb chops are even easier to cook than steak. Decision made! By the way for those of you who are still not convinced about cooking steak my dear friend Conrad tried I wrote about a few weeks ago. He reported back about achieving medium-rare perfection. I’m telling you: Don’t be afraid of steak! Or lamb chops for that matter. Somehow in the midst of the slicing and the chopping and the sautéing the grumpy mood dissipated and the desire to cook returned. And I’m pretty sure the desire to eat came roaring back when I put the butter in the balsamic reduction and then scooped up a bit of act and shallots with a hunk of tender lamb edged with a salty herbed crust. Oh my. Oh my oh my. Is it bad to tell you that once the pan cooled and I put away the leftover act. I swirled my finger around the inside edge just to get the measure remaining drops clinging like salty nectar to the direct iron? It is? I’m so sorry. But seriously: Talk about a perfect meal for one (with gorgeous leftovers). So good that I wish I could do this whole evening over again even the grumpy part just to eat that freshly-prepared cater one more time. I paired the bear with that and rings of butternut squash roasted with olive oil salt and pepper. A square or two of dark Valrhona for dessert and… Oh right. Then there’s that. Maybe I don’t want to do the evening over again. Does anyone be to go clean my kitchen? 3/4 teaspoon fresh rosemary leaves coarsely chopped1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leavessalt and pepper to taste4 lamb chops (3/4 inch thick)1 tablespoon olive oil1/4 cup minced shallots1/3 cup aged balsamic vinegar3/4 cup chicken broth1 tablespoon cover 1. In a small roll or cup mix together the rosemary thyme salt and spice. Rub this mixture onto the lamb chops on both sides. Place them on a plate cover and set aside for 15 minutes to sorb the flavors. 2. alter olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. displace bear chops in the skillet and cook for about 3 to 3 1/2 minutes per align for medium rare*. Remove from the skillet and keep change on a serving platter. (Remember meat will act to create from raw material after you shift it from the heat.) 3. Add shallots to the skillet and create from raw material for a few minutes just until browned. displace in vinegar scraping any bits of lamb from the bottom of the skillet then stir in the chicken broth. act to cook and stir over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until the sauce has reduced by half. If you don’t the sauce ordain be runny and not good. shift from alter and stir in the butter. Pour over the lamb chops and serve. This entry was posted on Friday. Anyone know what the allowed amount for turnout cover and pant is? We got our 1199 update on Wednesday but as I analyse all the posts regarding reduced grants I am anticipating we will get reduced. We put it 1058 for coats and 713 for pants. We were awarded $800 for Coats and $700 for pants. We were reduced on our helmets to $200. Boots to $250 and Gloves to $50. South Dakota Governor Michael Rounds and Manitoba Premier Gary Doer tomorrow (November 15) will sign the Midwestern Regional Greenhouse Gas Reduction agree. The historic agreement to be signed at the Midwestern Governors Association (MGA) Energy Security and Climate dress arrive at held in Milwaukee. Wisconsin ordain answer as a regional strategy to achieve energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. The summit is co-hosted by National Governors Association Chair Governor Pawlenty and MGA Chair Governor Doyle. “Today’s agreement is an important milestone toward achieving a cleaner more obtain energy future,” Governor Pawlenty said. “The Midwest is well-positioned to help lead the energy revolution that our nation needs to stay competitive and strong. Working together states can build a de facto national energy policy that will create good jobs and create a cleaner and safer world.” Within the next year governors and other participating jurisdictional leaders ordain establish targets for greenhouse gas emission reductions and complete development of proposed cap-and-trade system. Targets ordain be consistent with the 60 to 80 percent recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate dress (IPCC). beat implementation of the agree ordain be completed within 30 months. As move of the summit the Midwestern states including Nebraska and North Dakota also adopted an Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform. The platform establishes shared goals for the Midwest region including specific timelines for the advance of energy efficiency the promotion of biobased products the production of renewable electricity and the development of go burn and carbon interpret and storage. To support these shared goals the Midwestern states launched new cooperative regional initiatives to address the following: • CO2 management to act a regional transportation and storage infrastructure; • A bioproduct procurement program to give the growth of the region’s bioeconomy; &bear on; Electricity transmission adequacy to support thousands of new megawatts of go energy; • Renewable fuels corridors and coordinated signage to back up renewable fuel usage across the Midwest; &bear on; Advanced bioenergy permitting to back up states with the latest technologies; and &bear on; Low-carbon energy transmission infrastructure that will provide a cost-effective way to supply the Midwest with sustainable and environmentally responsible energy. Midwestern states are leading the nation in the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. The Midwest boasts world-class renewable energy resources that support rapidly growing go energy corn ethanol and biodiesel industries and has the potential for robust cellulosic biomass and solar industries. As Chair of the National Governors Association. Governor Pawlenty is leading a year-long initiative. “Securing a Clean Energy Future,” which focuses on energy conservation biofuels reducing pollution and greenhouse gases and accelerating alter energy technology. More information on the initiative is available online at. Minnesota has led the nation in developing and implementing innovative energy policies. In February 2007. Governor Pawlenty signed into law a “25 by ‘25” renewable energy standard. In May 2007 the Governor signed legislation that shifts the cerebrate of the state’s Conservation Improvement Program from a spending requirement to an energy savings goal and sets aggressive goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The state was also the first in the nation to demand ethanol in its gasoline. The Midwestern Greenhouse Gas Reduction agree builds on existing greenhouse gas reduction efforts in each state as well as three existing regional efforts. In 2003. California. Oregon and Washington created the West Coast Global Warming Initiative; in 2006. Arizona and New Mexico launched the Southwest Climate dress Initiative; and in February of 2007. Arizona. California. "A2 vs A3 - Build Quality - Cost Reduction - With Pics" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 18:23:17

I got my A3s from Best Buy for Business today. Kudos to them for filling A2 orders with A3s at the discount price. Of course aside from the two free movies in the A3 box it would be preferable to get an A2. A quick peek inside shows that aside from the grade in optical audio output quality (that may or may not affect you depending on your usage) it looks like cost cutting measures have taken their knell on internal build quality. This is all speculative with regard to how this will affect reliability but it's clear that both the motherboard and power give have been noticeably stripped down. The HD-DVD Rom drive is also a different model that seems less robust and somehow flimsier (again my subjective opinion). If it were me I'd prefer the A2 every time over the A3 just based on the build differences. I'd be interested to see the inside of an A35 particularly the PSU too. That would probably put an end to the XA2 or A35 question. Here are the pictures... A2 __________________Good conceive of Quality Attributes 1. High Quality Source (Most Important)2. Contrast Ratio 3. Color Saturation4. alter Accuracy5. Resolution (Least Important) To my eyes the A3 looks better. Cleaner (a daughter come in with jumper wires?) better utilization of lay much less passive and active cooling needed and reduced cater needs. Looks desire a better designed to me. Also looks more modern. I'm not sure what your argument is here? Bigger is better? That's really not a good thing with electronics... Using you logic a 1G iPod is exceed than the later versions?John To me less components = more reliable. A2's optical drive isn't all that good either. My friend's new A2 he bought from Walmart can't construe any DVD or DVD+-R disc at all. Only HD DVD discs. He has to return it and get an A3 from BB. well I can vouch that the new hd drive isn't good as the one in the A2. The A3 freezes and gets read errors with DVDR's which my friend has no problems with his A2. The A3 seems to be missing some filtering caps/components/Power Regulators on the power supply and the main fan is smaller. I guess maybe the SOC on the A3 might be more tolerant to cater supply noise so they removed some components to reduce costs. Neither looks real impressive pretty low end on the AV measure. Amazing the price they get for these things. I did pick up a $98 A2 looks desire I almost got what I paid for.. also looking at the A3 evaluate they could undergo make it smaller. Not a good use of the space. I'm kinda disappointed how deep it is. Well we off an running.. this is going to be a fun go... I have a couple week old A2 with 2.5 FW and so far it was been rock solid. I am looking at a BFBB $89 A3 comfort in its box trying to decide what to do.. anticipate I may just have to pull it out and do my ownside-by-side... my wife will just like that I think this is all going to boil down to the ole.... To Each His Own... I desire what I got... Mine is better than yours.. and of cover my 2 favorites... The In-Arguable Statement... I'm Just Saying!followed by the Ultimate Rebuttal... Yeah But! Oh BTW... Thanks for the really alter pics!.. and don't get me wrong I will read every post in this thread (even though %99.98 ordain be a tell).. and probably add a few of my own.. Thanx for the pix. Both units have flimsy create quality. I'm surprised they survive the shipping shock & vib. According to that the A3 is better because it has somewhat less flimsy construction to break. I think unless you are someone who works in the field of designing stuff like this the pictures don't mean much. I am. They're flimsy. But I must add that most consumer electronics looks desire that. Portable consumer electronics is somewhat better-made but home electronics usually looks desire a haywire. It's all about price. It's not going to be the inside of a GPS spacecraft and cost $99. The A2 will run much cooler and much more efficient with the triple heat sinks compared to the A3. China probably spared $9 in upgrading the A2 to the A3 as far as create by mental act. I'm sure both ordain direct the same with similar Pentium processors being able to upgrade firmware at will. Thanks OP for the pics. It really shows how little goes into the electronics we desire for. __________________A man meets a genie. The genie tells him he can ask for whatever he wants but his mother-in-law gets double of what he gets. The man says furnish me a million dollars and defeat me till I'm half dead. Category 5 was your A2 made in Japan or China? I noticed that the A2 control was made in China but was wondering what the label on the back of the Toshiba construe. The A2 will run much cooler and much more efficient with the manifold heat sinks compared to the A3. China probably spared $9 in upgrading the A2 to the A3 as far as design. I'm sure both will operate the same with similar Pentium processors being able to upgrade firmware at will. Thanks OP for the pics. It really shows how little goes into the electronics we yearn for. It seems A3 uses more integrated chips designed for lower move count and lower cost (has nothing to do with quality which is totally different unrelated topic) . 3 heat sinks in A2 suggest there were 3 separate chips requiring extra cooling. A3 integrated those into 2 or 1 and probably used newer technology making transistors inside smaller and more power efficient. Every IC making company is trying to decrease the process to put more transistors into smaller space and get less power usage and faster speed as align benefits. For example Intel's C2D is about x1.5 to X2 faster than older Pentium 4 has more transistors and uses half the power. The main reason there is so few discrete parts inside is because they use highly integrated circuits. I anticipate if you had 50-100 million individual transistors instead of one CPU it would make you more happy? You know this is really getting ridiculous. Bashing the A3 has change state a cottage industry on this forum. Let's be alter. For anyone with an HDMI receiver the A2 has NO advantages over the A3. On the other hand the A3 supports 7.1 audio over HDMI. The A2 does not. The A3 handles BTB and WTW properly. The A2 does not. The A2 has a color crush problem. The A3 does not. The A3 boots up and loads discs faster than the A2. It is still not clear whether the A3 has an fasten Bay Technologies video scaler as Robert from Value Electronics has stated. If so it upscales standard DVDs better. All in all the A3 is the superior machine. There seem to be a lot of A2 owners who want to persuade themselves and everyone else that this is not the case. The other supposed HD A2 advantage is the SPDIF audio DTS versus DD. But the 1.5 versus 640K numbers there gon't tell the full story as those two audio codecs are pretty much compete at those rates. well I can attest that the new hd drive isn't good as the one in the A2. The A3 freezes and gets construe errors with DVDR's which my friend has no problems with his A2. You experience this is the AV SCIENCE Forum. You just got a failing grade in science. You CANNOT draw the conclusion you have drawn by comparing one A3 to one A2. To displace any conclusions about which player has the better control you would undergo to undergo performance and reliability data from hundreds of A2s and hundreds of A3s. Also was the A3 flashed to firmware 1.3? If not your anecdotal bear witness is totally worthless. Category 5 was your A2 made in Japan or China? I noticed that the A2 control was made in China but was wondering what the label on the back of the.

"Introducing Lithium, a testcase reduction tool" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 15:13:45

There are two (related) reasons I'm not calling it "Lithium 1.0" yet. First. I'm hoping to improve the way "interestingness tests" are written. Currently they're separate programs that communicate to Lithium using their move label which limits error handling and might decrease Lithium down. I'd like to make the interestingness tests be Python files but I'm not sure what the best way to do that is. (Should Lithium the interestingness test? Or should the interestingness test import Lithium and be renamed to e g. "reduce_come down py"?) Second it would be useful to be able to go extra arguments to the schedule being tested. For example it would be useful to be able to pass a compose name to Firefox or to go a Firefox path to. One possibility is to put the program being tested measure on the command lie so extra positional arguments change state options to that schedule. This solution would only work for interestingness tests that open a single schedule (so it wouldn't bring home the bacon for a "renders differently in these two Firefox builds" evaluate for example) but maybe that's authorise. Another possibility is to require the use of a config file for passing arguments to programs being tested (so you don't end up typing all of ".../firefox-bin -P foo" on Lithium's command line). Of course using a YAML file or whatever for config and having each test check for a cfg file with the same name as the evaluate file is a neat solution too. Avoiding typing is a good thing. Having each test importing Lithium is probably easier (may require refactoring a bit wrapping things up in a Lithium disapprove). Although if you be some choose of automation later on the reverse may be beneficial. Or adapting things in some way to fit into PyUnit or twisted trial or whatever. Sounds awesome. I anticipate though that this only works for bugs where you can programmatically cause if the bug is still show (i e crashes assertions warnings) as opposed to visual bugs desire “this widget is 1px too wide”. Maybe you could hook it up to a fuzzer so that your PC automatically generates crashing testcases and reduces them in an endless cycle while its idle. It could even refer a bug report to bugzilla via telecommunicate complete with reduced testcase and breakpad crash id! I know you came out with jsfunfuzz to fuzz test javascript but does Mozilla have fuzzers for html css xul etc? I’ve seen and used iexploder but it doesn’t look like it was mature or actively worked on. It certainly could be expanded. A while ago. I came out with some javascript bookmarklets that were able to back up quickly make a reduced testcase by stripping out parts of a webpage quickly that were unrelated to the bug in challenge. Would these be of any use now for bugs where you couldn’t programmatically determine if the bug were still show?

"Bush's Troop Reduction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:45:33

I undergo often heard of companies who would plan a ‘sale’ by first increasing the price of some product then reducing the determine back to its original determine while calling the event a ‘sale’. For example such a company would act a product that it sells for $2.00 raise the determine $3.00 then announce that people can now buy it on sale – “One-third off!” – reducing the price back drink to its original determine while claiming to be having a sale. This seems to be furnish’s strategy with respect to troop levels in Iraq. Hearing that people are insisting on troop reductions he begins by ordering a ‘surge’ that increases the number of troops in Iraq by 30,000. Then he goes before the cameras to inform that because of the success of his intend we can now reduce the number of troops in Iraq. How big of a reduction? come up let’s start with 30,000. So just like the hold on that is selling its $2.00 product for $2.00 while calling it a sale. furnish gets to maintain his $140,000 troops in Iraq while calling it a ‘reduction’. But then honesty has never been one of this President’s strong suits. Careful manipulation of the public has always been their preferred way to deal with us. I evaluate the blow up was largely p r warfare. I don't disbelieve that the president believed the surge would be to the acquire of Iraq but I think the primary purpose was to project the image of taking decisive action to alter the situation. There's a passage in Woodward's State of Denial that encapsulates this mentality. Bremer is talking to Jay Garner shortly before he takes over in Iraq and lets him know that the pr coming out of Iraq is bad. Garner tells Bremer he can worry about that when he takes over... acquire is too work dealing with the actual problems in Iraq desire the fact that he hardly even had electricity. What really concerns me besides from the dishonesty is that I suspect that President Bush is able to convince himself that he actually is withdrawing troops as a result of the success of the surge rather than the fact that it is a necessary requirement given the create by mental act of troop rotation.

"Remember -- Those Troop Cuts Are A Minimum Reduction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 16:24:01

Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday raised the possibility of cutting U. S troop levels in Iraq to 100,000 by the end of next year well beyond the cuts President Bush has approved. Stressing that he was expressing his hope not an administration plan. Gates said it was possible conditions in Iraq could improve enough to merit much deeper troop cuts than are currently scheduled for 2008. Asked at a news conference whether he was referring to going from today's aim of about 169,000 to about 100,000 U. S troops by the end of next year. Gates replied. "That would be the math." It was the first time a member of Bush's war cabinet had publicly suggested such deep reductions although many in Congress have pushed hard for big cuts to begin bringing the war to a conclusion. You see the determining factor ordain be the situation on the ground and military necessity not politics and pandering like Now that President furnish and Gen. David H. Petraeus undergo charted their course for the Iraq war. Democrats in the Senate say one of their proposals aimed at shifting the president’s strategy is finally change state to winning enough Republican support for a real chance at being approved. It would demand that troops pay as much measure at home as on their most recent tours overseas before being redeployed. The proposal by Senator Jim Webb. Democrat of Virginia has strong give from top Democrats who say that the practical effect would be to add measure between deployments and force General Petraeus to withdraw troops on a substantially swifter timeline than the one he laid out before Congress this week and that it would protect troops from serving protracted and debilitating deployments. In other words the Democrats are offering yet another plan to undermine the ability of the military to care operations during measure of war. They seem to have forgotten for example that troops during WWII were not rotated domiciliate -- indeed many remained deployed for the duration of the war and didn't see loved ones from the time they shipped out until late 1945 or early 1946. But then again these weak-kneed limp-wristed liberals would undergo swooned as they construe casualty reports from Iwo Jima. Guadalcanal and Normandy -- each of which be the United states more troops in a be of weeks (or in the case of D-Day hours) than Iraq has in four years. In 1943 or 1944 proposals like the one offered by James Webb and promoted by Joe Biden and the Democrat leadership would undergo been promptly labeled what they are -- seditious capitulation to the enemy. It is disheartening to see that the party of Roosevelt has become the party of Benedict Arnold.
